the "wheeze" was probably a capacitor letting loose. Look for a cracked top in a cylinder on the motherboard, otherwise its in the power supply

Okay, why an HDMI reciever? My TV (samsung DLP 61") has two HDMI inputs, and anything sound related it sends through the fiber optic to my reciever. What does 720 vs 1080 have to do with sound??????...
