Re: how do play this hand?

I should really bet 40 there? The pot is 48, wouldn't a bet of 30 be better?

how do play this hand?

I was new to a 1/2 nl table, only played a few hands, and picked up AK utg. I raised it to 12 ( I had 150 in front of me and the other players had me covered), and had three callers. Flop is A25,...

just venting

I guess this is the best place for this post. I know I made the right plays, but it still sucks! I was playing 1/2 nl in a room where they have high hand bonuses for four of a kind and such. Well, I...

table talk

I'm usually pretty quiet when I play and just kind of try and be invisible. But when I do talk I blurt out stuff that gives away my strategies. For instance, last night I flopped three nines. Bet it...

value betting the river

I'm not sure if I am missing too many bets on the river. If it's checked to me I often get scared of a raise and also check, unless I have a monster or my opponent is a pow, then I'm more inclined to...

do I lay this down?

I have Q 10 middle late. 2 callers in front two behind. BB, raises it to 8, but says he meant to make it 12. He has been very aggressive and won several pots uncontested, so I haven't been able to...

hand question

Playing 1/2 nl. One player w/ about 1000 raises to 20 preflop, another player on the button w/ about 500 calls. Both players are very loose, somewhat aggressive. I have 200 and am in bb with KK. I...

Re: Ace King - So i miss the flop again

You missed the flop completly here. You don't have any runner runner draws really, except picking up a gut shot on the turn. And you may even be reverse dominated. If the better has ace jack or king...

Re: what do you think?

I don't think that question really makes sense. If you are playing "loose" then you are playing a lot of hands. You don't "tighten up" when you get a big hand, you play it aggressivesly.

Re: My path to becoming a better player

Well, if you want to bet a better player then you should work on your weaknesses of course. If you know you are losing your money when you tilt, then make a commitment to stop playing when you start...

Re: Correct amount to bluff?

Obviously you wouldn't be representing a flush in hold'em if there isn't a flush available. But if you are chasing a straight, and the flush hits, you can bluff that, or vice versa.

Re: lag

I've found that being loser in the begging levels of a tournament can be a good strategy. See more flops and hopefully hit and build your stack. Then at later levels, tighten up. Your loose table...

Re: Live Games = Variance Time?

Sounds like it was just a bad night for you. You definitely don't want to be the donkey that calls with k10o utg and get it wacked by AK. Poker takes a lot of patience. Be sure and use that tight...

Re: Limit vs NL for learning purposes?

I would learn limit first. You need to learn the fundamentals of poker and learn them well before you step into nl. You could use your time at the limit table to practice things that will be...

Moved to the beginners forum. The full ring forum would have worked as well, but I think the OP will be better served in beginners.

I was recently playing in a soft 1/2 nl limit game when a new player sat down immediately to my left. Whenever I tried to limp in late position he would raise to around $30. I couldn't pick up any...
