Re: Calling Preflop Raises

The general concept of avoiding ones peers (and superiors) while making ones money off the poor players is almost axiomatic. Getting into a pot against a player whose game you respect is dangerous. ...

Re: Stealing A Poker/ Fight Question From Giant Buddha

That is good for them because watching the late rounds of a NLHE tournament isn't even good for your NLHE game. Short-stack push and pray isn't poker.

Re: Stealing A Poker/ Fight Question From Giant Buddha

Holdem is very popular with -EV players because their negative edge is smaller. The edge of great players over their near-peers is a different matter, however, and you might be correct if the five...

Re: Stealing A Poker/ Fight Question From Giant Buddha

The best Stud8 player is going to have a very good handle on Stud and Razz a pretty good idea about how to play O8. That leaves LHE, where luck might be with him. The flop game specialists are going...

Re: i fking hate these people

I would have raised pre-flop, bet the flop, bet the turn and folded to the check-raise. Just as you did. It looks like QT to me and it is a shame that a dominated hand like that won. However, he...

Re: Reading a Re-Raise, Hero has KK

Your opponent looks older than fifty. Probably sixty or so.

Re: Reading a Re-Raise, Hero has KK

Aside from the rumors that they are going to close their poker room, what is so special about the V that makes you want to fold? I have played their only during a recent trip.

It's a great poker...

Reading a Re-Raise, Hero has KK

$1/2 NL at the Venetian, $200 max buy-in

Hero: UT+1 $240 (just sat down, won a small pot)
Villain: BB $450

1 fold
Hero raises to $20 (the usual raise at this table)
7 folds
Villain makes it...

Re: Two More Things People Think But Won\'t Say

1: Saddam and his clique has been deposed but our troops still takes casualties and nothing gets rebuilt. This is largely due to how badly the aftermath of the shooting war was handled but the...

Re: Pot Control with JJ vs. known 2p2\'er

One overcard on the flop and it isn't an Ace? I bet a big fraction of the pot, like you did. The only reason I would be too worried would be if he reacted to the flop, which I couldn't see online.

Re: Pot Control with JJ vs. known 2p2\'er

[ QUOTE ]
Based on how you played the hand, I would check the turn and revaluate. Against some players, I lay it down; against others, I fold.

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL. Don't you mean that you lay it...

Re: 2-7 Single Draw NL

I have seen this game at a casino only once, although we used to play it in illegal games.

We switched our five dollar blinds (equal blinds) game at Foxwoods very late on a Saturday night, when...

Re: The Stacks are the Stakes, a suggestion

That is my point. It is certainly possible to make the right adjustments for shallow-stacks NL and win money. The "skill factor," as some people like to say, might be smaller but it's still there....

Re: Connecticut (New Haven) 2+2 game

Not today but maybe one of the other Sundays. I just got back, at eight am, from Foxwoods.

Re: another 2-7 predraw decision

I have never played this game limit, so I would probably fold a drawing hand to a re-raise. However, the odds in limit are very different here and I think I would have ended up in this position.

Re: Results.

I think you are naive to believe any poker opponent in a situation like this.

Your line was intelligent in that it showed some thought and was not the obvious line of play. I think check-raising...

The Stacks are the Stakes, a suggestion

I am always surprised at how many players want to have a very low buy-in for the size of the blinds in private NL games. NL and PL poker are much more interesting games if there is some money to bet...

Re: NL200 - KK vs LAG C/R on Drawy Flop

When the pot is smallish, as it is here, my thoughts are always in the order fold, raise call. With a big pot, I consider raise first, call still last. Which does not mean that I never call.

If...

Re: Pooh-Bah Post: Loose Aggressive Play

This is an excellent article. It is especially useful to steal blinds when the blinds are rather big compared to the stacks at the table.

When people have 200BB in front of them it becomes both...
