Re: best variations of chinese poker?

There are several variants that are playable, just like standard poker. The biggies are CP with all hands high, and CP with 2-7 low in the middle.

We sometimes play CP high with the front hand...

Re: Bored now. Invent a novel poker variant.

Here is one from my never-been-play-tested (except for dealing hands to myself) file. Its novelty lies in the ranking system (much like badugi).

Vienna: It's a triple-draw game where each player...

Re: variance in chinese poker

Just an FYI: I've played 822 hands of heads-up high CP with a friend. I've swept 99 of those hands, which is 12%. I should note that of those 822 hands, 116 of them were played with only 12 cards (a...

Re: Chinese deuce-7 hand

So what does this matter in selecting a strategy for a closed hand game? It just seems illustrative of the fact that there are more ways to set your hand.

I was thinking like if you can see someone's hand and you have the decision as to whether to place XXXXXKK334A56 as kings up or kings with deuces in the front. There's one best play if you...

Mixed Chinese

Does anyone play in a mixed CP game? What I mean is one "orbit" of standard, one orbit of deuce-in-the-middle, or anything like that.

A friend and I play in a casual game where we alternate rounds...

Re: Modern Chinese Poker

[ QUOTE ]
Isn't this obvious? Much of the reason 2-7 in the middle has become so popular is that it fundamentally changes the game from mechanical to exploitative, because of the weakening of the...

In the video at Card Player I remember Layne Flack saying that AK on top is par.

Yeah, I think that was it.

I don't know much about Chinese Poker, but that's okay...

Re: Modern Chinese Poker

[ QUOTE ]
You're Wrong. In Chinese high it is well understood that the average hands are the following:

552
9's up
KJ flush

AK up front will win about 40% of the time.

one of the first thigns i noticed in the 2-7 game is that trips up front is suprisingly common. i make this play constantly when i can put a clean 9 or rough 8 in the middle and put some...

Re: Modern Chinese Poker

Some thoughts. First, I didn't give much thought to the fact that I held many low cards. Second, I can't believe I didn't consider the full house hands like 22277 T5433 AA4. If a Ten in the middle is...

Modern Chinese Poker

I've been dealing out some hands trying to get a feel for CP with 2-7 in the middle. Here is one of the first hands dealt that I'm having trouble with.

AA2223344577T (no suits)

In real time, it...

Re: The Well: MarkGritter

Back to the inventing games question. The reason I asked is because I think it can be useful to study games that are similar to the standard ones but for a few quirks.

As a math guy, you may...

By the way, in case you don't know/remember, you were the hero in both of the above posted hands. I wasn't involved, but I was waiting for a seat. (Not because you were in the game!)

Please tell us about your educational background.

Do you enjoy inventing/analyzing new poker variants?

I was in line for this game and saw this hand:

Re: Stars HH change

Good. The histories were hard to read before. Also, this has reminded me to send a long overdue email to support.

In a multiway pot from the BB, I had a two-card draw to a weak suited hand. I...

Re: Triple-Draw High?

Someone on 2p2 or RGP commented that Triple-Draw high with deuces wild was a decent home game. I dealt some hands by myself and figured it could be okay, but starting with 22X (especially when X is a...

Re: TD question in Sklansky\'s Special Playground

Note the difference between my scenario and Sklansky's. In mine, you decide whether or not to take the 6 when the action is on you.

It feels as though you should be less inclined to request the 6...

How did you know that both of them were drawing? If the purpose of your second round bet was to find out, well, you won't always find out. The type of players that constantly limp predraw are the...

I wouldn't know if FPS was a habit of yours. I was just pointing out that I don't feel like you need to bother with plays like this at .5/1. If it's not a habit, then it doesn't matter. This thread...

Re: a shortish headup and threehanded 2-7 session

My quick thoughts:

Hand 5: I would 3-bet this predraw.

Hand 24: I usually toss the 9 at a full table. HU 9 is good, yes?

Hand 25: You both draw two. You "improve" and then check-call to draw...

I should have kept one of the 7s and drawn 1 going into the 2nd draw, but it worked out anyway. I need to snow better, blah.

I don't think that's right either.
