Re: Time\'s Klein on Affirmative Action

I think affirmative action has gone on too long in some circumstances. I don't think there's a need to correct voluntary re-integration, for example.

But, I'm reminded of an interesting analogy...

Cold War Science Beat Free Market?

Government spending on certain sciences during and as a result of the cold war (nuclear, rocket, space, moon, computers, etc.) advanced the scientific knowledge ball much further than businenss as...

Re: Freaky Thing About Gravity

Don't have a clue. I wiki'd it and there isn't anything at all in there. What's strange is that encyclopedias seldom devote more than a line to the fact that nobody has a clue why gravity works. ...

Freaky Thing About Gravity

Did you know that scientists have absolutely no idea about what causes gravity? None whatsover. I'm not making this up.

Sure, they can model what gravity does in a particular case, but not a...

Limit HU rake at Paradise

It's refreshingly low. Just started playing there. Checked on Poker Tracker and rake is like 0.65% of the pot at 3/6. I used to play some limit heads up on Ultimate Bet and the rake was five or...

Re: PF Math for Dummies

No, I was asking about the average rank of the HIGHEST card in a two card hand. It's got to be something like Jack or Queen.

PF Math for Dummies

What's the "average" rank of the highest card in a two card hold'em hand? Is there a difference between the mean, median, and mode?

Re: Dumb jokes you still find hilarious

Two penguins meet on an iceberg.

First penguin says, "Hey, you look like you're wearing a tuxedo!"

Second penguin: "How do you know I'm not?"

Re: What\'s your biggest downswing?

I too feel better after reading this thread. I'm on a -275BB downswing in limit, the biggest of my "career." I feel alternatingly sick, disgusted, impotent, cheated, and worthless.

Re: Has EVERYTHING happened in poker?

This reminds me of when I was in college. Me and my friend, after we'd had a few beers, would try to think up short but complete English sentences that we were pretty sure no one in history had ever...

Re: City of Chicago Mandates a Living Wage for workers.

If a local government (as opposed to the federal government) elects councilmembers who choose to enact a minimum/living wage, then in fact that's a conservative result. The government closest to the...

Re: At which point do I lay down KK?

You played fine right up until you folded the river. You'll win way more than 1 in 7.75 to justify a call.

Re: NO MORE STATS POSTS

My game has improved more by identifying particular stats that were way off from the 2+2 norm than reading all the hand analysis posts combined.

As to people who say no stat posts unless x+...

Re: How much do you trust Hud

I trust it enough to say, you've lost, give it up, next hand. Save your big calls for the aggressive players.

What, you're still here? You think a .6 is going to check raise bluff you? I...

Re: a few interesting river stats

Everybody's W$SD when bet/raised/CR is around 75 to 77. Mine is 74. I've often wondered about this stat, and thought that maybe it was too high. I mean, an argument could be made that something in...

Re: How to slow down the game?

May I suggest you read the excellent book "Blink." It's by the same guy that wrote "The Tipping Point," Malcolm Gladwell I think.

Anyway, what I got out of that book is that deliberative thought...

Re: JT two pair with 4 to a straight on board

Considering villians low aggression, I'd tend to think bet/fold. If you've got enough hands to be sure of his stats, in my experience there's no way he's bluff raising the river here.
