This reminds me of when I was in college. Me and my friend, after we'd had a few beers, would try to think up short but complete English sentences that we were pretty sure no one in history had ever said before. For example: "Monks weld." What do you think? No, he'd say, somebody somewhere said that before, etc. We were pretty goofy.

There was a discussion some time ago about whether there were more possible games of poker or chess. Of course the number of no limit games is uncountable since there are infinite bet size possibilities on each round. I attempted a calculation for the number of possible heads up limit hold em games and came up with about 5*10^18 (see this thread).

If 1 million games are played each second, it would still take 158 thousand years to play each heads up limit game! So in reality, each game you play is likely to be different from any game anyone else will ever play during your lifetime, even if the situation seems identical (i.e. you and your friend might both get a set of aces cracked by a rivered flush, but the ranks and suits of each hole and board card are probably different). For practical purposes, these two games could be considered identical, and using this criteria, most situations (at least in limit) have probably already occured in previous games.

Not with integer chip values and some finite cap on the size of the biggest conceivable game, surely?

Just as an example, has anyone actually hear of this:
K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] against A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] preflop.

[/ QUOTE ]

Whoa, AA has a big edge here. Let's see the flop.

[ QUOTE ]
Flop: A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 10 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (I think people may see where this is going)

[/ QUOTE ]

Quads! Yeah, I see where it's going. AA is about to get PAID IN FULL.

i open fold the turn face up when i have AA there because you have the implied odds that someone has the royal flush and will tilt off for the next 5 hours.

At least it's not registered (yet) by google. However, "monk welds" is:

from marxists.org :

A monk welds, in his effort to be more helpful to the church.

River: who cares (but actually this would have to have happened with every single card on the river, so 44 times, not to mention the different stages of the previous cards coming out and different starting hands.)

[/ QUOTE ]
This happened to me in a home game once. I was dealing and had the aces. I hit the fifth ace on the river, and man was my buddy pissed at the suckout.
