Re: Hold\'em on the Come: Limit Hold\'em Strategy for Drawing
don't forget Bob Ciaffone - he's been quoted as weak tight in this forum before.

1. Doyle Brunson 2. Matt Maroon 3. Byron Jacobs 4. Erick Lindgren 5. Blair and Rodman And a bit over the top 6. Matt Lessinger are names that come to mind without much effort [/ QUOTE ] Gary Carson too. Oddly, Phil Hellmuth, who frequently gets criticized for being weak-tight, gives some maniacal LHE advice. |

No ... I didn't say, that he has been praised, just that he is not weak tight (but I shouldn't have mentioned him, I am fairly new to these forums, and I have missed out on, what it is, that makes Maroon (and perhaps Matros as well) dislike 2+2 quite a bit)

RPG and the 2+2 forums had a silly little war based on allegiance. Now a days most people don't care, and 2+2 is the NY Times of the poker world so it's really not relevant anymore. It was rather in-vogue for RPG'ers to dis on Mason and David back then just to prove to the world that they are smarter than the big named authors. In hindsight most people just made asses of themselves, including some rather big name players, without ever proving their point. In fact many were outed unintentionally as being trolls or incorrect thought processes. In short Matros's bias was probably born from this era. I know at least one of his close friends who don't share his opinion of 2+2. As for Maroon, I just read his book and I didn't like it. His short section worked for me because I can filter out the garbage... but the average reader the book is intended for cannot. He pushes edges that really shouldn't be pushed unless you are at a table that will let itself be bullied.... which is rare. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

Next time I will have to add a note saying : HUMOR ALERT [/ QUOTE ] It wasn't totally a joke though, because I do agree with your underlying point that 2+2 likes to play real aggressive and brag about how great we are at value-betting. |

Re: Hold\'em on the Come: Limit Hold\'em Strategy for Drawing
[ QUOTE ]
Here is the article published in the June 18, 2004 edition of CardPlayer magazine. [/ QUOTE ] While that is a clear example of what I was talking about, that was not the article I was thinking of. It was a year or so before that--it could've been Poker Digest, it could've been Card Player, I can't remember. The article took the form of a quiz, and the question was like-- "You have AKs in the BB in a 10-handed game. A tight, solid, professional player raises UTG. Everyone else folds. What do you do? Fold -- 10 points Call -- 2 points Raise -- 0 points. Your opponent certainly has AA, KK, or AK. Blah blah blah." While I don't remember other questions, most of them took the form of putting opponents on absurdly narrow ranges of hands and finding a way to fold. Classic weak-tight. I guess we've done Slotboom's history to death, now. I look forward to this book to see if he's changed any. The very title of the book is encouraging, as it implies playing draws aggressively. |
