Like others have commented birth of his daughter, boredom. He was also pretty annoyed with the vig at the WSOP

For someone like Paul Phillips i figure poker was just a hobby to play out of boredom. After he got tired of it he moved onto something else and once he gets bored with that he'll find something new to do all over again.
