You gotta call, you have odds against TT+/AK/87!

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, yeah, if we pokerstove that we win like 1 in 4 and we have like 3:1 odds so whatever. But am I the only one that thinks that blindly sticking another 54bb in with second pair here is kind of retarded? I mean, AT THE TIME HE PUSHES we basically have breakeven odds against that range, but could we have played this hand in such a way as to have avoided that spot?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I'm just saying that at that point he's gotta call. Whether he should commit himself with his initial bet, I dunno. I think so.

Here is a reasonable range below that makes this a call.
{ TT, 88-77, AKs, A8s, KTs+, T9s, Ts8s, 9s8s, 87s, 6s5s, AKo, KTo+ }

[/ QUOTE ]

The problem with using Pokertracker to "solve" these problems is that it supposes that 87s is as likely as AKs. Preflop play makes hands like 87s, and 65s far less likely. And can you really see T8 raising and calling the reraise as often as AK or KQ?

The questions is - does a complete unknown short-stacker have no King here at least 70% of the time? My experience says that he has the King at least 70% of the time.

There's no shame in folding when you are clearly beat. If he's making a play - congratulations. And if he's doing it with air, you'll see a pattern and can snap him off later on. I think this is a clear fold.

Weir,
I think you are assuming with his comment above that he is essentially making the argument that you should "wait for a better spot," but I don't think he is.

He is merely saying, if he has a K (which he thinks is likely), then you make a good fold. If he doesn't, he will overplay his hand similarly in the future continually giving you opportunities to stack him.

Doesn't that exactly mean wait for a better spot?

No, it means, I think this is a -EV spot, but if it isn't, there will be +EV spots in the future that you can take advantage.

For instance, this is a bad call 95% of the time so don't make it. That 5% of the time that it is a good call, you will have another chance at his stack.

What I mean is, given a complete unknown villain, calling is always -EV. If, after watching for a while, you learn more about this villain, it is possible (though still unlikely) that such a call would be +EV.

Why do you want to pot this flop? What does a bet of $50 accomplish that $36 doesn't?
