Station Casinos' is by far the best. You deal with locals so you don't really have to worry about the up and downs of the poker industry. I deal here in North LV and it is a great job. You might not make quite as much, but you don't have to deal with the Fahra's of the world. Never mind the strip traffic. Believe me, all and all, local casino dealers that are motivated do very well.

Harrahs is the scourge of the universe.

Any Harrah's Entertainment-owned casino is AWFUL to work for as a dealer, at least the four properties they run in AC.

harrahs might suck as a company but I thought they were pretty decent to work for.

They give you a free buffet to eat while you are working so you never have to worry about bringing food to work. You can also eat before and after your shifts for free which is really nice. While I was working there I saved a fortune on food. If I really wanted to I could drive over there and eat every meal for free. The food is good also. Tons of fresh fruit/veggies/lean meat. They even had soft serve fat free ice cream.

You also get paid for working 8 hours and you only work 7. Alot of places might do this I dont know but you get paid for your breaks.

I thought they were pretty decent to work for. Most of the people there had about the same opinion I would think. Most ppl thought harrah's was ok to work for.

[/ QUOTE ]

Um...you know that all the casinos do this, right?

And you know that the reason they give you a free meal is NOT "so you never have to worry about bringing food to work," right?

My mom works at Hollywood Park Casino here in Cali. It is pretty relaxed there, since they let the dealers go play while on the clock.

Huh? They can play blackjack while milking hours, and the pit is ok with it?

People I know would agree with the Harrahs statement. People who live in my head.

Based on what I've heard, I cannot believe somebody hasn't mentioned the Commerce on the "worst list". Like, they shoot dealers there don't they?

I ask this because my impression is that the Horseshoe Tunica is well respected by players, and also generally attracts good dealers.

[/ QUOTE ]

The Horseshoe in Tunica gained its reputation (and dealers) before Harrah's aquired it. A lot of the people that made it the Horseshoe have left since it was aquired by Harrah's. There are still some good people that work for Harrah's.

[/ QUOTE ]

Definitely.
Horseshoe is the best pay in Tunica so the employees will put up with the current Harrah's crap regardless.

I dealt at Bally's in Tunica and that's clearly worse for a variety of reasons.
The primary reason is the pay of course.
But there's other little stuff like the employee-buffet being not nearly as good, etc.

Overall though it wasn't such a terrible place to work even though the pay was lousy.
I've definitely worked at worse jobs. Even with the high turnover you can make decent friends. Go back to the break-room and sit around watching whatever game is on the TV with a couple other dealer-buddies.
And if your table is in the least bit fun or a decent group of people or you're friends with the floor-person around you then you can have a fun time at work also.

Of course you're going to have many nights where you're dealing to customers who are pretty grouchy because all they do is lose and they just sit there and blow smoke in your face.

But whatever.
Dealing in general still isn't the worst job you can have. Being around people is a good time-kill.
Minimal stress in my opinion. Just show up and sling cards around a table. If you screw-up then tell the floor, "Hey, I screwed-up."

Back to the subject of Harrah's:
Friend of mine deals BJ at Horseshoe-tunica and evidently they have some occasional rah-rah type mandatory meetings or something stupid like that.
It might be a daily thing. Not sure. But I think it's universally considered to be pretty retarded.

I would be willing to bet that almost all of the employees enjoyed life at Horseshoe-Tunica MUCH better before it was taken over by Harrah's.

In the pre-Harrah's days the employees would rave about it being a pretty awesome place to work.
Under Harrah's there's quite a bit of complaining about some of the idiotic crap, even from dealers I'm not friends with whom I'm able to get to open-up a bit....but at least the pay is still better than anywhere else.

no I didnt know that they all did it. but it's still really nice. I dont think it was that bad to work for either. It's easy to move up in positions if you want to work there for along time. They give you insurance. I dont know what's so bad about it.

any examples from anyone?
