As with others that have posted, part of my motivation is pure ego and desire to better myself for both aesthetic and health reasons.

My main drive however is the knowledge that I know that my life or other lives could rely on my fitness level due to my line of work. Definitely helps me to always give as much as possible towards my fitness goals, whether it be a run, lift or just not cheating on my diet.

Vanity.

[/ QUOTE ]

I tried this and it didn't work for me. Then again, I have a girlfriend.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sorry. I'm in love with myself.

who isn't in some way, but............

speaking from old guy experience here, lol,

vanity will run out.
it will run out when you don't think you have to look great to feel good about yourself and/or get laid.

complacency creeps in for nearly everyone without better motivation than looks.

i used to cycle and set "looks" goals and get there and then 4 months later not ever let myself go per se, but def. be a bunch softer and then do it again. get in a long term secure relationship and get busy with a bunch of other things and see if vanity still gets you to eat right and w.o daily.

it didn't for me, at least not consistently, but once health and wellness kicked in it has not been a problem.
plus a bit of vanity thrown in for good measure.

good luck. J.

No. You must have me confused for someone else. I do love myself that much.

Music is good, although I think you have to experiment a bit to find what helps you most.

With me it's even different depending on the type of workout. For lifting I prefer heavy metal and violent, aggressive rap.

But for doing a 20-30 min session of HIIT, for some reason Radiohead's Hail to the Thief keeps me really focused. There's a spiteful inevitability in the pulse of Hail that soothes my panicked fear of the upcoming set of 21-score squat tabatas. I just get them done and move on.
