That is unlucky, but checking the river is a must in this hand. I would of put the villain on something like A9, K9, J9 and shut down after turn (although river shove changes things).

if you are going to donk the flop, make it a psb. i would rather c/r though b/c i think you'll get floated a fair amount by donking.

i don't think there's anything wrong with just c/c the flop and trying to get to showdown cheaply. its not like you're gonna take all that much money off a guy with an unimproved 88. making a reasonable sized bet on the flop is of course ok, too, but its ok with anything.

What about a check/raise on the flop? Good or bad?

check/raise might of helped prevent villain from floating as tarheeljks posted.

check/raise with this hand is awful and basically a bluff.
you assume that the flop didn't help him and you build a big pot with a marginal hand.

i like to make a psb on the flop.the bet on the turn is ok but i like to check no need to build a big pot with a pair.on the river after the third diamond i check/fold.

reraising pre-flop is better than calling.we are ahead of his range most of the time.

Assume I called pf. Now I donkbet the flop for pot size and villain calls. I check the turn and villain bets say half or psb. Now what's my action?

After a psb on the flop checking doesn't sound that great on the turn, because (like in the scenario above) if he bets because I look weak he puts the hard decision on me...

CRing the cbet would make him more likely to throw away overcards or weak draws (that players at these stakes love to hold on to) than simply donkbetting the flop imo, although I think I'm being results-oriented.
