Clark,

What do you mean by "exceptional?" Like, a ranking system. Where would Phoenix be on that ranking system?

Oh, and the 2001 Lakers dispute your claim.

With the *possible* exception of Houston, it's been nearly 20 years since a non-exceptional defensive team won the NBA Championship. You can hate it all you want, but it's true.

Don't confuse a high pace factor (many possesions per game) with actual bad defense. The suns are tied for the fifth best deffensive efficiency (points given up per 100 possesions) in the game with Memphis...http://www.knickerblogger.net/stats/2006/d_de.htm

I guess they got rolled last year because their offense wasn't good enough.

FWIW, I understand and appreciate their efficiency rating, but I think there are some issues with them. I'd save the time because convincing me the Suns are a good defensive team simply isn't going to happen. At the end of the day, if they win the NBA Championship, I'll admit I was wrong. Til then, they need to win something other than meaningless regular season games.

Nobody's talking about last year, when they were 17th.

Isn't Phoenix one of the best teams in terms of points allowed PER POSSESSION? Like, 2nd? Isn't that what you would want to be measuring?

Considering only three players who are playing right now for the Suns played for them last year -- Nash, Marion, Barbosa -- I think last year is indeed irrelevant to the current team.

The guys they added can all play solid to very good defense. Bell and Jones alone are massive upgrades in that regard. Thomas is a solid post defender which filled a huge need and Diaw is a very solid and versatile defender.

I guess since they run up and down the court a lot they aren't getting any stops.

phoenix is still a pretender, can't beat SA or DAL and Dallas is showing that right now WITHOUT Howard+KVH+Devin Harris That's like 35 ppg 12.5 boards and 6 assists.
