Ok, I'm cheating by either using Chipper Jones at LF (he played 300+ games there!) or moving Dale Murphy to LF from CF, unless someone can find me a good LF.

Ron Gant?

St. Louis Cardinals:

1) Lou Brock - RF*
2) Ken Boyer - 3B
3) Stan Musial - LF
4) Albert Pujols - 1B
5) Jim Edmonds** - CF
6) Roger Hornsby - 2B
7) Ted Simmons - C***
8) Ozzie Smith - SS
9) Bob Gibson - P

* Okay this is fudging, but Brock was quite versatile. If you MUST you can replace Musial with Enos Slaughter, but this would be debatable (who was better, Brock or Musial).
**Though I think you could make a case for McGee here.
*** In a few list he will most likely be replaced with the Card's current catcher, Yadier Molina (who is very young still), as the all time catcher.

Gregatron,

Musial >>>>>>>> Brock

Musial is an arguable top 10 all timer and easy top 20.

EDIT: Also, Yadier Molina? WTF?

That guy (Thigpen) was censored DOMINATING at one point. Call me crazy, but I think he was better than the Eck.

Meh.

He had two really dominant years, a few years as (above) average, and then fell off the face of the earth. I mainly put him on there because he's the saves leader.

The Phillies by position. Sadly you don't have to have been a Phillies fan for long to have seen most of these guys:

C Mike Lieberthal
1B Ryan Howard
2B Chase Utley
3B Mike Schmidt
SS Jimmy Rolins
LF Ed Delahanty
CF Cy Williams
RF Chuck Klein
LHP Steve Carlton
RHP Grover Cleveland Alexander

Maybe Schilling in place of Alexander. Sadly most of these positions aren't even debateable. Maybe Luzimski in LF since Delahanty played pre 1920.

[/ QUOTE ]

I like Daulton over Lieberthal, but no biggie. Yea, there's no real controversy for Phillies all times.

Totally agreed. Musial is easily on the team. The only question is what position you put him in (he actually played more games at 1B than LF--1016 to 943. He also played 325 at CF and 750 at RF).

The tigers

Kirk Gibson CF
Allan Trammell SS
Ty Cobb LF
Al Kaline RF
Cecil Fielder 1B
Lance Parrish C
Charlie Gehringer 2B
George Kell 3B
Danny Maclain P

Obviously I have young fast Gibson leading off.

Here are the ground rules:

1. Each player must play his own primary position. No putting Mantle/Dimaggio in the same lineup because they were both primarily center fielders.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why? Any manager with half a brain, and access to Dimaggio, Mantle, Ruth, and everyone who has played LF in the history of the Yankees would start Dimaggio at CF, Ruth at RF, and Mantle at LF and forget everyone else.

I can understand how you don't want to move the IF positions around or interchange OF and IF, but any good CF would also be a good LF.

[/ QUOTE ]

Perhaps, but that's not the game we're currently playing.

Besides, I'd take a young Mantle in CF and move Joe D. to LF!

[/ QUOTE ]

Dimaggio was one of the best defensive CFs of all-time. No way I'd put anyone there ahead of him.

How about Ruth to LF and Mantle in RF?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think you had it right the first time.

[/ QUOTE ]

Something I did not know:

Ruth played nearly as many games at LF (1057) as he did in RF (1131).
