Re: Hitting out of deep rough
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] 8 inch 12 inch [/ QUOTE ] machete [/ QUOTE ] I think it was proven in another thread that a guy with a baseball bat is going to get out better than a guy with a machete. |

Re: Hitting out of deep rough
[ QUOTE ]
Take a steeper down swing- you want to get to the ball ASAP and avoid as much grass as possible. [/ QUOTE ] This is the correct advice, maybe move it back a little, and slightly open the face as long rough will tend to grab the hosel and close the face. It may just be a matter of preference, but I usually prefer to hit a draw with a steeper angle of decent too...maybe that also ties in w/ the tendency for the face to close a little. |

Re: Hitting out of deep rough
Trying to hit a fade is much better in thick rough...the grass has a tendency to turn the club, so trying to hit a draw will often 1) create a running hook or 2) produce a low shot that only goes 10yrds...trying to hit a draw just makes the tendency of the grass to turn the club WORSE.
If it's really deep rough (>4" and THICK), then just take a wedge and advance it into the fairway...don't try to get as close to the green as you can, just accept that you're probably losing a stroke and don't get yourself into more trouble. When you get much better, you can hit most mid-long irons out of deep rough, you just have to be very very strong and take a steeper angle to the ball...but it's very hard to do that, so just sucking it up and using a wedge is best. |

Re: Hitting out of deep rough
I dunno, id rather aim slightly right and have it go slightly left of where I had intended if it grabs...than to aim left and run the risk of going way left.
