PB, I think his point is that he is giving SB a range not that of what a 2+2er might have but of an average straightforward player who doesnt think like we do.

[/ QUOTE ]

Aussie ... it sounded to me like he was thinking that SB 'should' be raising more-tight in this spot because he is raising from SB (mostly from his use of 'legit')

perhaps coming from how he would play in SB in this spot

just pointing out that just because someone who is tight by stats doesn't mean that we need to define such a small range

and if villain is that tight perhaps we don't want to raise - and instead focus on post flop play rather than preflop equity

...If he's raising in the sb legitimately...

I think that a legitimate raise includes stuff like KJs from the SB in that position against unremarkable players. High-ish suited hands hold a good equity edge. Also, it's hard to extract the equity edge postflop, so you get in the raise while it's still clear and good. Also, increasing the size of the pot minimizes your positional disadvantage postflop since it has the tendency of keeping other players more "honest".

If you wanted to focus on the preflop decision, leave off everything that follows, since flopping trips makes you look like a genius for 3-betting even if it was -EV to do so.

However, I like it here. You put maximum pressure on the limpers to dump their hands and deaden their money or call two more with what's sure to be craptacular holdings. Also, even though your absolute position's not that great, you have fantastic relative position on the only other player who has a real interest in this hand.
