The answer is they make it into the money 15-20% of the time. Considering that 10% of the field is usually ITM, a good player can expect to get there twice as often. I'd venture to say that if you're better than 20%, you're probably too tight and may be losing money in the long run.

Anything to back this up? I'd actually be curious to see any data that can support this...would be interesting.

No, just a hunch, based on a friend of mine who prides himself on his 29% ITM record, yet has negative ROI over 500-something MTT's at the 20+2 level. He likes to play super-tight at the bubble, even folding big hands (99, TT etc.) so he can eke into the money with zero risk of busting out near the bubble. He cashes a hell of a lot more than I do, but he almost never goes deep.
