I have no clue why root canal has a bad rep...I guess because of the way they used to do it? It's absolutely painless, if anything it's a relief. I don't think you will have much of a problem talking at all. I didn't have any problems at all afterwards from what I remember.

You probably had a necrotic (dead pulp) case.

Others could have a live pulp, infected pulp, apical involvement, abscesses, and lastly, periodontal involvement.

Once the live pulp is removed, the pain is gone, unless you neglect to complete the procedure, then your apex (and other parts) gets infected.

You don't delay getting the post and core prior to the crown because you risk losing the tooth to a vertical fracture below the 'gumline.'

Yeah, route canals are not painful at all. Getting your widsom teeth removed is what hurts.

I have been putting off getting my wisdom teeth pulled for months. After reading this thread, I will continue putting it off because I am a pansy.

wow weird, I'm getting a root canal done tomorrow, to end this incredible god damn pain I've had for 4 days. I was doing 3 advil every 4 hours, did absolutely nothing to help me...Then I changed to 2 advil, 1 tylenol extra strength, that helped more...Now I'm doing 2 codeine...Eh, a little better. Can't wait to get this [censored] over with.

Well its done.... It was much easier than I thought. The most painful part was the needle to get me numb. I was in the chair for about an hour and a half. There was a lot (a lot) of drilling and pressure as the doc used a pick (?) to clear out my roots. I just turned up my ipod as the he literally pressed my head into the cushion with so much pressure, but I never had a zap of pain. Overall was expecting much worse, and my terrible toothache is gone. I was popping advil 24/7. No pain today at all (except the corners of my mouth are split from having it open so long.)

This thread definitely eases my concern as well. I must have soft teeth or something, because despite obsessive brushing I always seem to get lots of cavities so I'm sure a root canal or two is in my not so distant future

Getting your wisdom teeth out can definitely suck afterwards. Mine were mostly through the gums, so they only needed to be pulled and not cut out, but any type of stitching in your mouth sucks big time.
