Athens built a huge new airport for the olympics. If you fly there even if the ticket was free you're gonna get hit with at least 100 euro in airport fees.

check www.skyeurope.com

did a quick search and saw a flight tomorrow to athens for 7600 HUF, that's like 40 $. they probably will take your liver out on the plane, but should be worth it.

probably extra taxes for gas and whatnot but should still be affordable.

and go to the spas. i was there once for a few days and we just chilled in them everyday. szecheny(?) and gellert are two i remember.

Update.

I managed to get a 30,000 forint flight to Rome on Friday afternoon (160 USD). I am now trying to figure out the cheapest way to travel from Rome to Athens. Has anyone travelled this route before that can offer a suggestion?

Also, I need to head from Rome to Florence at some point (family reasons).

This trip is getting insanely expensive insanely fast.

BTW, the baths here are beautiful and it looks like we'll be able to see another one or two since we have to stay here for so long. Plus, we now get to hit the clubs on Thursday night, which is pretty much a weekend here. Beers are cheap in most places. I think the rest of the meals will have to be grocery or market bought.

Thanks for the help so far and if anyone can help to get from Rome to Florence (round) and/or Rome to Athens, I will be ever greatful.

I flew round trip last summer between Rome and Athens. From what I recall it was pretty expensive, probably in the range of what you paid for Budapest ==> Rome. Rome to Florence just take the train unless there's a really cheap Ryanair flight. Either way that trip shouldn't be too expensive.
