No. Cingular is a roaming partner in some areas, but it's rare. T-Mobile did buy their California network from Cingular, but it was a while ago.

I'm in California. My unlocked phone w/ TMobile card shows 'Cingular'; now I know why. Damn phreakers told me it was a sharing arrangement.

A big % of the 2+2 comm live in Cali, and they are the same here. We dont get out much, remember its a big state, but, yes, they are separate in other parts of the country

this was not a joke. if you can't appreciate the coolness of this phone then there is something wrong with you. you would be the biggest attention grabber in the bar.

You should buy a cheap phone, and some how mesh the electronics and the phone case so you can use that big phone, becuase it is so sweet.

Not as rare as you might think. I do customer service for Cingular and it's not that uncommon to have T-Mobile customer's to be on a Cingular tower and dial 611 for customer service. It happens all the time, and this is for the Eastern half of the US, no where near Cali.

T-Mobile has their own towers/network in the GSM 1900 band and has agreements with Cingular regarding their 850 band towers when customers are outside the T-Mobile/PCS network. Many T-Mobile phones from early in the decade are 'tri-band' phones and cannot use the Cingular 850 mhz network, most phones made these days are 'quad-band' or 'world phones'

The phone in the OP is almost definitely not GSM. Motorola did make a GSM version of the "Gordon Gekko" phone, but the first versions had LCD displays, not the older red LED display as shown in the OP.
