There are nicer beaches just next to Alantic City in Ocean City. Nice boardwalk for stores, arcades, food, games, etc... Decent beach. But dry town so no drinking there really. Very family friendly.

[/ QUOTE ]

I like Ocean City NJ a lot. I'll probably be there with my family at some point this summer.

But it is not a good option for guys on vacation, and not just because it's a dry town.

The only women on the beach between the ages of 18 and 35 are there with their kids.

Plus, the Ocean City beach is open to the public for a fee. You need a valid beach tag, (last year $5 per day, $8 for week, $13 for season) and you cannot buy them at the beach.

OK. Thanks for all your input.

Just a little OT: Beach life any good in AC in summer time?

Hmmm, traveling from Norway to spend a week on the coast of New Jersey? I'm going to estimate that "sorely disappointed" enters your vocabulary at some point during this trip. Oh, and don't judge all of the United States' prostitutes on the ones that will undoubtedly accost you once you walk further than earshot from any of the casinos - most have more teeth than that.

i go to penn and the train from 30th to ac is only like 8 bucks, but i think the train from NYC to 30th is like 66 bucks.....ill be in nyc this summer and was just curious as too how much greyhound will cost me
is the bus cheaper then the 75 bucks the train will cost?

on a side not, one time i took the greyhound from the philly to ac and Ballys gave me cash when i showed them my bus ticket...any similar promotions?
thanks, J

The bus will only run you $31 for Greyhound, and you'll get $20 back at most casinos when you arrive. I know Greyhound gets a bad rap on here, but I have taken it tons of times and it is usually pleasant. The best thing about it is the flexibility it affords you. You'll be able to pick it up at almost every casino at one time or another, plus you can catch it every half hour at the bus terminal.

At some point this summer NJ Transit is starting express train service from NYC to AC. I think that might not be happening in July. Don't take mass transit to/from JFK to/from Manhattan. Pony up for a cab or take one of the shuttle buses run by private companies that drop you off around Grand Central or the PA.

During the summer the NYC-AC buses have a reasonable number of normal people just heading to the shore for the weekend along with the usual degenerate crowd. If someone offers to share a cigarette with you at the Cheesequake rest stop, say no thanks.

If the NJT express train isn't running yet and you hate the bus you can take Amtrak to Phila and then NJT from 30th Street to AC. Alternatively since Amtrak is expensive you can take NJT local to Trenton, SEPTA (e.g. Sorriest Excuse for Public Transportation in America) to 30th Street and then NJT again. This is a long trip. Taking a cab would be prohibitively expensive.

The beaches in AC proper are sort of gross but again during the summer there are plenty of people out there. Nicer beaches can be found in Margate or Longport, IMO.

The flexibility is great. The problem is that they're extremely crowded and have a very small amount of room. That wouldn't be too bad, except there's a 50/50 chance that you end up squished against an unwashed/obese/crazy person. My last trip home I woke up halfway there with the fat ass of the lady next to me on my lap. She'd turned sideways on her seat and raised the middle armrest to allow the blubber to overflow.

It might be a short walk about 4 blocks from Penn Station to the Port Authority Bus terminal

Penn Station is certain to be a short walk from Port Authority at all times...no might about it.
