Transportation between NYC and AC
Hi,
We're a bunch of Norwegian guys going on vacation to AC in late June. Our flight arrives at JFK in the afternoon. Are there any real alternatives to the Greyhound bus from The Port Authority Bus Terminal? Anyone have an idea on how much there is for a cab to AC, or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks |

Re: Transportation between NYC and AC
Only alternative is renting a car. Sorry.

Re: Transportation between NYC and AC
You don't want to cab it. There's other bus options other than Greyhound but yeah the only other option is to rent a car.

Re: Transportation between NYC and AC
Well, you could take a train from NYC Penn Station to Philadelphia 30th Street station, and then transfer to the AC train from there.
It will certainly be longer and more expensive than bus or driving, but could also be more pleasant. Seats have plenty of room, club car offers drinks and snacks, there is a power strip running along the passenger cars to power your laptop to watch a movie. Make sure you bring a plug adapter for the US, of course. |

i go to penn and the train from 30th to ac is only like 8 bucks, but i think the train from NYC to 30th is like 66 bucks.....ill be in nyc this summer and was just curious as too how much greyhound will cost me
is the bus cheaper then the 75 bucks the train will cost? on a side not, one time i took the greyhound from the philly to ac and Ballys gave me cash when i showed them my bus ticket...any similar promotions? thanks, J |

Re: Transportation between NYC and AC
Another option is to take NJ Transit train from NYPenn Station to Bay Head (last stop on the Coast Line) or Long Branch (major city) and then rent a car from there.
The car rental will be a HELL of a lot cheaper than if you rent in NY, and the drive will be less than an hour, and you'll have a car while you're in AC. I just got back from AC after spending a few days in NYC and it worked out fine. Still a compromise, but... |

Re: Transportation between NYC and AC
Take the monorail to the Jamaica Station in Queens. Then take the LIRR to Penn Station in Manhattan. From there you should be able to catch a bus. It might be a short walk about 4 blocks from Penn Station to the Port Authority Bus terminal to catch the AC bus. That should be the cheapest way. The Academy buses have cash back coupons of about $15 or $20 against a $28 bus fare last time I rode.

Re: Transportation between NYC and AC
Beach in AC is decent. There are nicer beaches just next to Alantic City in Ocean City. Nice boardwalk for stores, arcades, food, games, etc... Decent beach. But dry town so no drinking there really. Very family friendly.
A bit further down is Wildwood which has some amusement rides (best of the bunch on boardwalk) and is not bad. |
