I'm looking forward to moving to new zealand when my lease expires this summer. They have national healthcare that covers travelers and every sort of out door activity you could imagine. I hope Aukland has a good night life and I haven't heard anythign about what the kiwi girls are like. Anyone ever been? As has been stated above, getting out of this stupid timezome (US East coast) is half the purpose. I'm sick of havign to choose between social life and money.

Yes you can become non-resident and not suject to Canadian income taxes (except for income from a Canadian source).
BUT when you leave you are required to pay tax on everything you basically own as if you had sold it all as you left. There can be big tax liabilities there. Proving that you are a non-resident can also be difficult. You can't keep a residence or bank account and you have to make it clear you will not be returning. Canada has the same concept of Canadian residents paying tax on their global income but that doesn't apply once you become non-resident. Then its just tax on income from a Canadian source. |

Nobody's mentioned Australia yet? unlikely to be forced to pay tax on gambling winnings, higher standard of living to the US, better healthcare, cost of living 40% of the UK if you live in a hole, excellent weather half the time, low crime rate...if you live in a hole [/ QUOTE ] |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Costa Rica is pretty good, from what I've heard. [/ QUOTE ] My two choices are Costa Rica or a Mexican Beach somewhere (Cabo San Lucas, Cancun, etc) [/ QUOTE ] any trip reports on the Mexican Beaches? Is broadband that accessible? I'm intrigued [/ QUOTE ] Cabo has high speed and, if you want it, condos that rival those in the US (both in terms of amenities/niceness and price). You can also get something cheaper if you want. Never been to Cancun. Can't say. |

[ QUOTE ] Thailand [/ QUOTE ] Does Neteller work in Thailand? The debit card? If not, how are cash-outs handled? [/ QUOTE ] Cashouts with neteller are no problem in any country i've visited in SE Asia. In China you have to use special ATMs as only one bank connects to the international bank network (I guess). |
