As far as the UK goes, I don't think the C-word, when used as an insult, is gender-specific, in the slightest. If you're the sort of lowlife scum who would call someone a C then you would use it as an insult to males or females, with no distinction.

Also, it is used in exactly the same context as calling someone an F-er by the people who use it habitually. Neither is more rude, (nor less rude), than the other.

On the other hand, to those who use neither, or would only occasionally, in extreme (to them) circumstances, use a swearword, the former would be regarded as a far more rude word to use than the latter, and probably would not be used by such a person, in any case. (Some might say "Filth is in the ear of the listener" applies.)

The D-word has moved into common usuage, with it's meaning having become entirely and only a mild "silly person", when used as a description of someone.

In light of this thread I reread the OOT thread in question. If I accept the OP of this thread at face value, and El Duque really thought he was calling me the female equivalent of a dick, I can see his point.

I made a statement in that thread that, while I didn't mean it to be hurtful, was pretty questionable ("Thanks for confirming she did the right thing.") If El Duque was genuinely excited about this girl, thought the date went well, and is truly disappointed by the outcome, that was an unkind thing to say. I would never say such a thing in real life. Perfect illustration of how the internet can keep you from considering someone's genuine feelings.

It also possible that this thread was made to brag about the fact that he called me a nasty name, in which case, OP may go take a flying leap. It's very hard to judge these things via message board.

But if it is the former, I apologize for my comment, El Duque.

Given the word that was chosen and the fact that you circumvented the profanity filter, I support the ban, and appreciate the mod that handed it down. If you had called another female poster that, I'd be calling for your head. Fortunately, I'm not one to waste any time being offended by the name-calling of a random poster. To be honest, I was surprised, then amused. I felt it perfectly illustrated my point, that you were insensitive to the social niceties and unwilling to change. In any case, it didn't upset me.

Cliffs Notes:

If I was a bitch, I'm sorry.
If you are just a jerk, I'm sorry for that too, for your sake.
Thanks to those who got it deleted.
It didn't really bother me.

The C-word is generally considered the most offensive word in the English language.

Dick isnt.

It isnt a double standard, so much as a standard.

VR now provides Cliff notes, the sign of a quality OOT poster.

In light of VR's magnanimous post, I think that El Duque's banning should be doubled, possibly tripled.
