remember the weak tight local who makes the snide comments are no better or no worse than the 21 year old 2+2'er who cant grasp variance. Both consumers will make the occasional snide comment, which of course is usually not good for the game (nobody is perfect, its steam). I wouldn't want a table full of weak tight locals, nor would I want a table full of 2+2 "why am I not winning" whiners who are spewing too many bets into the pot - but a balance of the two can make for a particularly good table in Vegas once the action sits in. A good game in the mid limits is often a tossed salad, you need a balance of player types since the pure action games of places like LA, Phoenix, or LA doesn't exist as often.

[/ QUOTE ]

Everything here is %100 correct. What Mason suggested won't lead to any kind of balance though.
I've played with you numerous times TT, and you seem to be an intelligent person. I'm sure if I were to give you my ideas you would be quick to abandon the line of thinking that Mason suggests.
In the end, the rooms offering middle limit games in Vegas are going to stay the same. The Bellagio will have the most, the Wynn will come in 2nd and the Mirage with have a little. Mason's idea probably won't be used, and if it does any benefit it would have as far as bringing players into the room would be far from cost effective (obviously leading to the ending of the relationship between the room and 2+2).

Gk123, what are you doing to your posts to make them extend like that across the screen? Are you typing in a word processing application and then cutting and pasting to the Reply form?

It's distracting from what is otherwise a lively discussion.

TT, RR, can you edit it for whitespace?

edit: I deleted the posts because I couldn't see right away what was causing the problem. -RR

Mason's idea probably won't be used

I can guarantee you are wrong about that, I have been approached just last week to discuss - but its not as you are presenting it so I really shouldn't discuss further until there is more info available.

PS: Not sure who you are, but hi. Its so annoying when people know me, but its not reciprocal

I realize that poker is somewhat of a haven for people who have social problems and who can't get a real job, but some of these people honestly need to get a grip. If you don't know how to behave in a social setting, just STFU. There is no law that requires you to converse at the poker table if you are fundamentally incapable of talking nicely with your marks.

Yeah, that's just what I want... To play in a room full of 2+2ers.

This is your typical Vegas midlimit "pro" from 8-16 through 30-60. Players who really should know better, many of whom I know well, simply can't seem to help themselves. They must berate, snicker, comment, etc. It's pathetic.

::nod::

These people kill me as well, but unfortunately there's not much that can be done with these idiots except to hope and pray they don't drive away the $$$, and action #1, at least for me, is to chat up the guy doing the sucking out if he's sitting close. "F that guy, nice hand."

[ QUOTE ]
FWIW, if you read the medium stakes limit holdem board here, action is encouraged/advocated with a particular emphasis on opening up your game in late position.

[/ QUOTE ]

Cold-calling 3 bets with Q9s on the button, flopping middle pair, turning OESD, and getting there on the river drives people wild.

I several times noticed miserably smelly obnoxious bipolar weak-tight locals who chased away the calling stations and especially couldn't tolerate the action player.

Most of the low limit local "pros" are the same.

Poker is now a casino game, not a niche game with a super small player pool. The players will no more go broke than casino players who play slot machines have gone broke.

[/ QUOTE ]

The slot boom that started in the 1950's is just about to end. The slot players' bankrolls can't last forever.

More seriously, in a 2+2 Magaine article back in September(?), I commented that I think limit hold 'em could suffer the same fate as 1-5 stud in Las Vegas. Just three years ago, 1-5 stud was the most widely spread game on the Strip (though 3-6 and 4-8 limit hold 'em combined outnumbered it). Today, there is no more than two 1-5 stud games running on the Strip at any time (always at the Mirage).

In 3-4 years, it would not surprise me if low-limit hold 'em is on it's death bed. Middle limit hold 'em is already in big trouble in Las Vegas.

[/ QUOTE ]

It would surprise me, because I don't see what low-limit game is going to replace it yet. 3/6-4/8 holdem replaced 1-5 stud as a good structured low limit drinking game. Baby NL doesn't quite fit that mold.

Whoa. Read for comprehension. I in no way have claimed myself to have people skills. Why do you think I'm playing limit? You know, I try to follow my own advice, because I've noticed that a smile, good hygeine, and a large helping of STFU goes a long way toward helping an anti-social dweeb pass as normal. What irritates me is the anti-social dweebs who don't even try. And the bipolar [censored]tards have no excuse at all in my book, since they can take pills for that but simply don't bother because they enjoy being bipolar [censored]tards.
