Ive seen poor players play this way, i suspect that villian had a set that he did not want to release and still not play a big ot with it, but on the turn he realized he couldnt fold to your raise so he pushed.
I dont know if you had any notes on the guy, against someone I played alot with I might have done this play, but against someone that I hadnt played many hands with, Ill go for just a call on the turn. |

-- Villain called your initial raise
(he has something worth calling the raise with) -- Villain check-raises you on the flop (perhaps he's trying to stop you from making an higher flush than he already flopped, or stop you from filling up if you have two pair or a set - I think sometimes we have to consider *why* our opponents are doing what they're doing - they are not always just bluffing) -- the turn doesn't help you at all, and with no regard to what Villain has already done earlier in the hand, you make a large raise, essentially giving that money to him. If you could have seen the river perhaps you might have made a set or what could have been a higher flush. You said you raised for protection and value - doesn't quite seem to fit with what was happening in this hand. |
