I think the crux of the hand is turn and river anyways.

You're right.I overlooked the fact that the game was short-handed.

ya, 5 handed to boot. I think 4-5 handed I mix it up between raise and fold. As stated I think we can all agree that call is the worst line preflop.

So nobody is willing to fold to the 3bet on the river ? Crying call ? I like the idea of just calling his bet, on the basis that no weaker hand other then maybe the 4 is calling your raise.

I think PF is totally standard, especially against an aggro guy with position. The BB calling cold kinda scares me, especially if you think he has something like AJs. However, given he is spazzy and prone to fits of aggression, I don't mind calling his 3-bet, especially because the pot is so huge at this point. I'm really not a fan of the turn bet because you have the opportunity to take a freebie with a lot of outs, and I doubt you take it down on the turn any significant percentage of the time.

I may be a donk, but I think the pot is just too big to fold. If he has a flush, so be it, but I think a call is in order.

against a solid, i will not raise river.

it's not because i am afraid i am likely behind. it's because your river raise turn your cards face up. you have 99/a9/77. u will be raised by any hands beating you and may not be paid off by hands you beat

FWIW, if the old guy is decrepitly old...and from the description of his play, it sounds like the guy I'm thinking of....there is just no way in hell you can fold this river.

If its this guy, he's likely to bet like this with any pair. Even on the river, hopelessly beat. I have no idea to his thought patterns because he exhibits none. Just total random lord god spew with bizarre timing.

The player left in the hand isn't exactly solid. The solid player folded the turn.

All that and you folded for that last bet? If you were that unsure on the river why not just cry call that last bet instead of raising him. Kind of hindsight, but a raise on the river to find out where you are instead of just calling there I don't like. To me the pot is too big to fold to one bet there.
