Do I really need all the fancy software to play and win online poker?

Personally I can't live without it anymore. I have a very bad short term memory and PT+PAH really really help me. I also take a lot of notes on everyone and my game definitly benefits from it.

But I have a friend who plays 2/4 NL shorthanded, 8 tables at the time and doesn't use any software. He just plays a lot and manages to remember everyone, which is something I and most people just can't do.

You don't need it, but it'll definitely help your game. Especially if you multitable and/or have bad memory. I got it when i just barely started and it's done wonders. PT is definitely one of the BEST and cheapest software programs out there... PAHUD is also up in the ranks. It makes table selection soooo much easier.

Like everyone has said you don't NEED PT to be a winning player and it will not make you one but if you are serious about becomming a winning player then PT would be a GREAT investment. If you use it correctly and to its potential you WILL become a winning player.

I find the HU stat displays help me win HUGE pots when Im multitabling or surfing the web. You will learn who to call when they make those big all in bets (maniacs) and who to bet into really hard with TPTK (calling stations).
