[ QUOTE ] whats wrong with your knee? [/ QUOTE ] i don't know, i just got a referral to the x ray place from my doctor and should know within a week. it feels like part of the kneecap cracked or moved around or something. it doesn't hurt that much anymore unless i'm doing something stressful. i can't do squats, leg extensions etc, but cardio on the eliptical feels fine. i probably need surgery, in which case i will be posting about how to keep my weight loss going while bed ridden for 2 months [/ QUOTE ] Have an orthopedic surgeon take a look at your knee. Perhaps you have some maltracking of the patella. If you are bedridden for two months after ANY type of surgical procedure, a little weight gain is the least of your worries. |

workout in the morning on an empty stomach when fat is all your body can find to use for energy.
longer workout is better for fat burning, train for long sessions instead of high energy short ones. well done so far and keep it up. GL. |

Re: best way to do cardio in terms of just burning fat
The above topic is highly debated, and you could find articles supporting both.
But from what I know, its better to do your cardio BEFORE your weightlifting, the cardio has your heart going so much more, that the weightlifting keeps it elevated throughout your whole workout, while if you do it after, its limited as you go home and cool down. Just my two cents. |

Re: best way to do cardio in terms of just burning fat
Your diet will account for at least 80% of any weight you lose.
For fat-burning, I recommend long slow runs per Jeff Galloway ("Galloway's Book on Running"). Running without stopping and starting is not as bad for your joints as advertised. It may actually strengthen them. Just avoid running down hills. I did this while losing 50lbs in 5mos on Atkins. For me, the key trick from the book was to take walk breaks every so often, depending on your fitness level. Not so long that your heart rate slows too much. This will allow you to run much longer than otherwise. The idea with long slow runs is that for the first twenty minutes, you are burning mainly stored glycogen. You gradually move from burning glycogen to burning fat between about 15-30 minutes. After that, you're mainly burning stored fat. Just don't let excercise allow you to justify straying from your diet. |

I know very little of fitness, and even I can see that there's some really bad advice already posted.

Re: best way to do cardio in terms of just burning fat
Jesus this thread sucks.
Do not do your cardio first thing in the morning before eating. Its hotly debated as well, and the side I fall on is the "Your body thinks its starved and hangs onto your fat like its going out of style." Not to mention being fat is 90% about diet. Don't do your cardio and weightlifting together either. |

[/ QUOTE ] Also, why would anyone want to work out while feeling hungry, crappy, and lightheaded, as compared to having a decent breakfast and then having energy to exercice. |
