I don't see the effective difference. You don't what to pay 2 bets to see the turn in either of those cases. So unless you think you can fold at least two of them out frequently, which seems pretty unlikely, then it's time to check.

Another plus to checking is that it will occasionally get checked though because people think you have the nuts.

There is a huge difference IMO. In the latter flop we're much more likely to have the best hand and less likely to get raised.
