[ QUOTE ]
If 2+2 had any interest in hosting the wiki, I'd be happy to explore porting it over. The only people who make money from advertising there are Wikia, a company I think spun off from the Wikimedia Foundation (may be wrong about that, but it's some of the same people) who had the idea of hosting wikis for all purposes then reaping the advertising revenue themselves.

If I knew then what I know now, I'd have hosted the wiki on my own site -- but moving it now so that I control the advertising when so many people have made contributions just seems obnoxious. Moving it to 2+2 wouldn't cost me anything except effort, but I suppose it might introduce the perception of bias to someone from say RGP or other forums. I wouldn't want to do it unless it was the consensus solution, but I can see some benefits if 2+2 were interested.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm getting together with Mat this afternoon, I'll suggest your proposal. We will further this discussion via PM.

I'd be happy to help with the moving to 2+2 also.

"I'll let you all in on a secret... there is discussion of adding a Vegas dedicated forum"

This would be best as would a dedicated forum on AC and LA and "other" or whatever is deemed best.

For example, you might click on B&M forum and then have the choices of Vegas, AC, LA, all other. I vote for that.

I think you can overdo it with forum disaggregation. I'm already checking 3 or 4 forums regularly; I'd hate to miss a lot of the interesting discussion here just because it's "just about Vegas."

This isn't specific to 2+2, but it's sort of a theoretical thought I have about message boards. I'm surprised in the 10 years that message boards have been all over the Internet, it hasn't yet become standard that they allow users to select "views" of which topics they want to see.

Maybe I should be developing my own forum package that supports this. It seems very obvious, but maybe only because I think so much.

Just keep it the way it is. I am already checking 5 different 2+2 forums as is. No need to run that number up.

Think a more 'Vegas Info' sticky would be appropriate.
Don't see what the problem is.
Stickies in other forums I specifically there with the purpose of avoiding more of the repeat/n00b questions.

Some of the 'never played live' before questions are pretty similar to a 'never played on the internet before' or 'never bet on sports before'.
Well, if you have never played poker on the internet or never bet on a sports-game there are stickies in those forums just for you.

They are packed with good information to help the n00b get on his way.

I have mentioned before that I would like a 'Vegas' forum.

As it stands now we have discussion of Vegas restaurants, clubs/night-life, moving there and finding an apt, hotels, getting around, etc in OOT, NVG and in B&M...maybe also in 'General' some as well.

Tying more of it together in one place seems a good idea to me.

On BJ21 (the 2+2 of blackjack card-counting I guess) they had seperate forums for Vegas, South, Northeast, Midwest, etc.

I surfed to the different discussions in the different forums and enjoyed the different communities and I do think it could work on 2+2.
But there would be some huge out-cry about the horrible fractioning and "TOO MANY FORUMS!!! OMGZZZZ!!11!!!!!"

As you would expect, the traffic in each of the forums on BJ21 wasn't huge. But I think it's possible that more people felt encouraged to participate more in their own regional forum and can get into more in-depth discussions about Soaring Eagle casino in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan or the new room at the Argosy in Lawrenceburg, Indiana when it's known that it's with a bunch of people who have some clue what they're talking about.

Again, I don't expect this idea to fly because too many people would be against all the fractioning.
Just saying that I pretty much participated in something similar to this on BJ21 and enjoyed it.

The problem is 2+2 as a company cannot be perceived to be endorsing any one location, card room, casino, etc. This is 2+2's policy, and all moderators must live by it. At this juncture it just can't happen, but it might in the future.

I don't think that makes sense.

How would having a thread about Vegas life and the casinos there be some sort of endorsement more than having a thread on Restaurants in Vegas or Maps of Vegas?

It's pretty obvious that there's a lot of talk about Vegas on here from locals to regular visitors to those going there for the first time.
It's only natural.

To say that we are purposefully NOT going to organize any of that even though we probably should simply because we're afraid of somehow being viewed as endorsing them is pretty silly.

Also - used to have a forum called "WPT" for crying-out loud before it was changed to Televised Poker.
Seems like that's much more of an endorsement to me than just trying to organize a sticky about Vegas-Life.

Same for the "WSOP" forum before that became "Tourney-Circuit".

We currently have an "American Idol" forum.

these aren't just threads or stickies.
These are entire forums.

So if 2+2 is really concerned with somehow accidentally endorsing a city that many 2+2'ers are already talking about a lot they sure seem hypocritical of the other forums that they don't seem to think are somehow 'endorsements' (this is assuming that 2+2 was not receiving official endorsement $$ from WPT, WSOP or American Idol which I believe they were not).

Another thing to add to TT's post. This is not the Vegas Brick and Mortar forum. This is a General Gambling forum for Brick and Mortar casinos/cardrooms encompassing the entire world. Adding nothing but Vegas posts/stickies to the forum would certainly diminish the traffic geared towards other areas.

I totally agree with you but find extremely ironic that you would point this out given your typical quick to chide someone for not doing a search when the never-ending Vegas questions come up. Truly a selfless act, sir.

Actually, I haven't really done that in several months now. I haven't jumped anyone or anything. I've calmed down quite a bit and haven't posted anything. And really, is this a thread to start this kind of thing in? This is surely something a PM could have accomplished.

Edit to add:
The only times I've responded lately to stuff like that is when someone posts strategy questions or something and I suggest them to try the strat forums. That's pretty much it.
