Default Modest proposal to the Mods

In my opinion a small, self-contained "Las Vegas" sticky is long overdue, and it should include, among others, the following subjects (in the form of links to previous high-content threads if appropriate):

1) small stake NL games in town (anyone with the intention to play 2/5 and above should already have the information he needs or should consider stepping down).

2) Best value tourneys (there was an awesomely informative post a few weeks ago, it's a crime to let that one drop off the first page or even the first few rows)

3) Tipping 101 (not just dealers, but floors, chip runners, tourney tipping etc.)

4) Handling your bankroll (moving around with cash, wiring money, getting a box, etc.)

5) Cheap hotels and poker rates

6) Bars, clubs, and other social activities

Is this such a bad idea?

Unfortunately, yes. B&M is a forum, as mods we are here to encourage discussion not turn B&M into one stop FAQ source and therefore destroy traffic in the process. Its been suggested before, we have had long threads discussing it too - but its not in the best interest of 2+2 or the B&M forum.

Another thing to add to TT's post. This is not the Vegas Brick and Mortar forum. This is a General Gambling forum for Brick and Mortar casinos/cardrooms encompassing the entire world. Adding nothing but Vegas posts/stickies to the forum would certainly diminish the traffic geared towards other areas.

you get the picture

So they'll open the forum, see that we have a sticky about Vegas, certainly the most popular gambling spot, and then they'll leave?

The sticky doesn't discourage debate, on the contrary, it spawns it. People talking about potential additions/subtractions to the sticky. And of course, there's always all the non-vegas stuff (of which there is plenty).
Not having a sticky, even in some limited capacity, is just a reason to keep those "Bars in Vegas" bi-weekly threads around.

No. And you or anyone else can start constructing virtually the same thing here:

http://poker.wikia.com/wiki/Las_Vegas

Vegas is actually the weak point of the wiki at present. Instead of waiting for the mods to put this stuff on a sticky, you can add it there -- then one simple link will point to all that content.

With all due respect, I think that's wrong-headed. People don't stop visiting the forum because they're no longer tripping through 42 million "Where's the best mid-limit action in Vegas?" threads. To the contrary, without having to wade through repetitive content people come back again and again because they actually want to see something new.

I mean, the addicts like me will be here regardless, but I have to think that the number of repetitive threads is off-putting. And it's not like the people with the repetitive questions are going to fail to read the advertising just because they get their answer from an FAQ rather than a discussion.

It's really a disservice to those of us who spend a lot of time building up the community here to say that site management doesn't care whether we're having new discussions or repetitive discussions -- in fact, favors the latter. It certainly prompts further thought about what exactly I hope to get out of this site.

I'm not going to lie - I get sick of it, its annoying. I know RR does too from talking to him about it. But that seems to be the base of the B&M forum, 90% repetition, 10% new content. We do however try to make sure there are no repetitive threads that are currently active, we stop that whenever its caught.

The vast majority of the readers in B&M are not regulars like you, or Photoc, or the handful of others who spend a significant time in this forum. Its commonly an occasional stop point for people who frequent the other forums more often and have an occasional live poker related question. For example today someone with over 4,000 posts who mostly participates in the mid-stakes NL forums started a thread to know where he can play the best 2/5 NL games in Vegas - not this was no 2+2 neyophyte, he knows the deal perhaps better than most of you in this thread because he knows its ok to ask that question here!

I'll let you all in on a secret... there is discussion of adding a Vegas dedicated forum, but its not on the current agenda. Soon.... management has other issues to address first.

PS: We do hear you all. We are not ignoring the comments, although at this time we are taking a different path we are ALWAYS listening.

PPS: RR said he would refresh the stickies very soon (good, because i seem to suck at that). He has been sidetracked with personal issues the past 2 weeks.
