1 card straight river raise sex? So wrong that its right?

well i guess the preflop was so bad that it made it pretty obvious that there was something going on when i posted this.

the real story:

i was UTG+1 with JcTc

my mate was CO

UTG has ATo

i donked the river as my mate has insane river MUBS, and i hoped that one of SB or Hero would pay me off before getting c/r by UTG then calling it. when i got river raised i made the crying call

Hero gave this as his reasoning for making the raise which amazed me as he seemed to be a winner in the game.... maybe he was just bsing, but at what level, if any, is this correct?
