Re: Where to stay near the Commerce?
If hotel rooms are sold out at Commerce.
The Wyndham is *very* good. Otherwise, I suggest this one. It's by a Golf course, very quiet. Good for tournament rest. Hilton Garden Inn Montebello 801 North Via San Clemente, Montebello, California, United States 90640 Tel: +1-323-724 5900 Fax: +1-323-724 3554 |

Re: Where to stay near the Commerce?
Near the commerce? Nowhere. But it really isn't that bad of a drive from other great places, depending on which direction you're heading on what day at what time. Santa Monica is great, so is Silver Lake, Culver City, Manhattan Beach, Marina del Rey. Even the hotels near LAX aren't that bad. If you want to be nearer the casino AND fairly close to where things are happening, though, it's got to be Silver Lake, Glendale, or downtown LA. From there it's a quick trip down the freeway ("quick" being a relative term in LA driving parlance).

So this wouldn't be a cool, visit LA cali area with some poker in between trip to plan? I've never been to Cali and really want to visit, but also want to play some events if I go out there [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, then, like someone else suggested, stay in Santa Monica or Hollywood or somewhere and plan to spend an hour or two each day in transit, or at least be prepared to work around traffic patterns. But there is absolutely nothing non-poker-related to do in Commerce, as far as I know. |

Re: Where to stay near the Commerce?
I live in Santa Monica and used to live in the Valley in Burbank. Either of those places are fine to stay, but you can look at some vicious drive times at the wrong time of day (for driving Burbank and the valley is a little better drive time than figthing the 10 from Santa Monica). Right around Commerce as others have said is not the best part of town, but if you're there to play I'd probably recommend them. I've only been out to the Commerce/Gardena area to play there or the Bike and they don't seem to be the best part of town.
When you guys are in town, if you are interested in seeing the Santa Monica-Venice area let me know. I live right near the beach and walk down there fairly regularly when the weather is nice (which is like 300 days a year here). |

Re: Where to stay near the Commerce?
I lived in Redondo when I was a child then moved to Huntington and then Newport - I've lived in Ladera Ranch for about two years now ... Laguna is the best city in Orange County! We'll have to get a home poker game going one of these days for all of us Southern California peeps!
**One of the trendy Hollywood hotels would be really cool ... especially if you enjoy fun bars and clubs! You might get to meet Paris Hilton!! |

Re: Where to stay near the Commerce?
Thanks for the advice. I ended up going with the Wyndham. My gf's not coming so basically all I care about is proximity to the casino. I'll be spending most of my time there I'd think, come say hi if you see me.
