Did you miss this thread?

yes I did. Well, I read the OP but I'm not really interested in most race matters so I didn't read much of the thread. Bumped it though, thanks for the link.

My favorite is from the "Barack on the Economy" section:

[ QUOTE ]
# Tax cuts for the rich do not create jobs. (May 2004)

[/ QUOTE ]

Because when the rich get money, they bury it in a wooden crate, take it out to the desert, and light it on fire.

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you imagine that the goverment does?

If you want to create jobs then cut taxes on the poorest, and prepare for massive inflation.

I can't see the USA electing someone who is black, atheist or sane but hey, surprise me.

I like Obama but I believe he will fad away in Time.

Hillary and Obama are going to cancel themselves out and we are looking at Al Gore getting the nod.

Gore's not running. And no, I'm not parroting his public statements or conventional wisdom by saying that.

Isn't that a little redundant?

But I agree, and I think an atheist would have much more trouble getting elected than either a black or a woman. Guess I'll never be president.

Its not just the fact that he is black. His name and party have a lot more to do with it. A lot of people believed that if Colin Powell had run a few years ago he would have won the candidacy and presidency. The US won't be electing a black democrat anytime soon as the president. Especially one whose name sounds like 'Osama'. If there was a genuine Republican candidate who was black I could see them getting elected because then the close minded Republicans would be forced to choose between their racial allegiances and their party lines. I imagine that voting against the Democrats would win out. Also this black Republican candidate would pick up a lot of black votes from the liberals.

This is historically untrue. Blacks don't flock in droves to Republican black candidates. Most empirical analysis shows that the limited black switch is less than the white switch plus general lower white Republican turnout.

For people who are interested in learning more about Obama, I think these two Charlie Rose interviews are very insightful. He talks about his background and basic beliefs, but most of the discussion is about his politics and politics in general.
