I would raise the flop to define my hand, then if called check the turn and see what he does on the river... in your hand it looks like he has an eight or maybe pocket fours. I would definatly fold the river if i called down. hes been what looks like value betting the whole hand.By the river it looks like he can only have you beat.

i raise the flop for information and control, and also since i think i have the best hand. Straight forward 'mechanical' play is sometimes best

I raise flop w/ intention to folding to a 3-bet. I really am not thrilled to keep overcards in the hand and I'd rather just shut out overcards on flop unless villain is a known big bluffer, he can still call if he has a worse pp than you and you can always check behind turn for pot control, but there's less risk of a draw out and you have more idea of what type of hand he holds.

Since you posted the hand, i'm guessing villain had TT/JJ or Qx.

Villain will show up w/ A high/lower pp often enough to make your calldown line fine, but I still think raising flop is more profitable against your standard opponent.

Let me be the 80th person to say that you played this well.

Turn is annoying because he's betting so small that a raise is tempting, but I don't think it's small enough.

cashion - lets say you raise flop to 1900 and bet 2500 on the turn, check behind the river.

Notice that by the river, we have put in 100 chips more than just calling down. We also do not have to face the prospect of a c/r on the turn, or a 3-bet on the flop.

Now excuse me while I lol at your suggestion that raising the flop allows for better pot control.

[/ QUOTE ]

You bet less on the turn if you are playing for pot control.

Lol at you.
