Are you Asian? If you're Asian but not Japanese you are totally screwed. If you're white you'll be fine. Bring a lot of money. A lot. Tokyo was the most expensive city to live in for a long time, more so than NY.

take a girl to a love hotel, they are amazing.

go to the fish market in tokyo. get there early, maybe 7 or 8 am. make sure to eat the sushi they sell right next to the market, it's expensive but well worth it.

and drink lots of sake

If you happen to visit Osaka, make sure to stop at Captain Kangaroos, it's a gaijen bar. They have one of the best hamburgers I've ever had, and they're by far the most fun, frienliest experience there. Tell Hashi, Go, Han and Yuki that Ryan says hi!

All good advice so far, this should be a pretty good trip. What about sumo wrestling? is this the right time of year for it and how difficult is it to see one of these ?

You'll be fine, everything is subtitled in English and tons of Japanese will want to practice their english on you.

Get late night ramen.

Take the bullet train to Kyoto, see Kio Misu (sp) shrine and stay in a Ryokan (talk to the tourist office at the train station). Go to the Pig & Whistle in Kyoto and BS with some fellow english speakers.

Bring plenty of cash.

Go to Ropongi and meet loose American women.

Go anywhere and meet loose Japanese women. But don't chase after the young hip ones, just the ones who make it obvious they want to meet an American.

If you're rich, go to a hostess bar.

Go see a bondage show.

That's all I remember, it's been a few years.

Lots of good advice here. I lived there for a while. I liked Osaka better than Tokyo, but both are awesome towns. Very expensive too.
