Going to Japan, any suggestions?
I just booked a ticket to japan for March 5 - 12 without really thinking about it. I don't know the language or anyone there and I'll be going by myself. Has anybody been there who can recommend any interesting things to see/do/eat in Japan?

Re: Going to Japan, any suggestions?
You'll be fine, everything is subtitled in English and tons of Japanese will want to practice their english on you.
Get late night ramen. Take the bullet train to Kyoto, see Kio Misu (sp) shrine and stay in a Ryokan (talk to the tourist office at the train station). Go to the Pig & Whistle in Kyoto and BS with some fellow english speakers. Bring plenty of cash. Go to Ropongi and meet loose American women. Go anywhere and meet loose Japanese women. But don't chase after the young hip ones, just the ones who make it obvious they want to meet an American. If you're rich, go to a hostess bar. Go see a bondage show. That's all I remember, it's been a few years. |

I'm pretty sure I'll be in Japan (business trip) during that time, and I'm Japanese.
PM me for questions if you want. Soh |

I forgot the name of the district... but the fun places were around the Hard Rock for me. When I was there I also enjoyed Tony Romas.
At the time I really liked to drink.... Beer was expensive, like $8 a bottle. I wanted to hang at the local places but many wouldn't let Americans in them. I was in the USAF and there were even MORE places that didn't allow US military. |

Pig + Whistle brings back fond memories
Everyone here has mentioned really good things, I would also add go to an onsen. A week isn't very long to enjoy Japan but it's better than not going at all! |
