In your situation, with an all-in and a call before your action for all of your chips, I would rather have 10-10, or 9-9.

ROFL Please tell me this is a joke...

NLHE tourny at the SHowboat, 65 buy in. The blinds are about to go up to 500/1000. I have about 6k. An early position moves in for a little more than 6K. I put him on something like AJ or AQ. The player immediately to my right calls and I put him on a medium pair. I have AsKc. I called the bet for all my chips. The other hands were AQ and 99. I was very proud of my reads, but I am afraid I made a bad call. What do you guys think?

[/ QUOTE ]

i thinkk it depends how late in the tourney this is and if ur in the bubble or not. that being said u had a 35% of winning the hand if u put ur oppenents on AQ and mid pocket pair. Obv u had AQ dominated with 70% against him but the mid pockets realy bring u down. I still woulda made this call but im not sure y.. prob because ur chip stack is getting almost dangerously low and u need to make a move... i busted out of a $100 SNG with KQ even though i thought the villan might have a decent hand cuz i needed to make a move.

I understand that you had position on the 2 villians, however, I do not agree at all with calling. I feel that even though the blinds are going up, it is not yet time for a final show down. (assuming a 15 min. blind structure at least). With AK off I like to be the first one in ( all limp then I go all in, or make a big raise first, or big re-raise). A hate calling all-in with AK off at the start of a tourney. In your situation, with an all-in and a call before your action for all of your chips, I would rather have 10-10, or 9-9. I have laid down AK in position before, when I am medium stacked. You have to be scared of the high pairs you could be up against, unless you know the other two players are donkeys. I would have dumped.

OP is shortstacked. Shove this all day and twice on Sunday.

YUP. I know it's hard but try not to be concerned with results.

I think you should have folded AK in this situation. Sklansky says to avoid coin flips during tourney play. Harrington says to push when you have 1st in vigorish. This is probably OK for ring play, but not for tourney given you have an AI and a call.

you have (presumably) 12 big blinds, and are about to have 6 by the time blinds get to you. you have AK. you are 42/50, and a long way from the money. get your money in the pot!

i don't think it matters what action is ahead of you. i think if you are in the BB, and every single player shoves ahead of you, you should still call.

some of the advice in this thread is woeful.

yawn. Get your chips into that pot, now. You don't have time to avoid coin flips, you'll be down to 6BB any time now. As aujoz says you're not close to the money, so take the race and either triple up now or go home. End of story.

And try and form your own opinion, rather than playing some mish-mash of other people's styles. Better for your play in the long run to have your own opinion looked at and turned over than just regurgitate a book.

What does this even mean? The vig is the rake a casino takes in a cash game, nothing to do with tournaments. Unless I'm missing out on some new terminology...
