I think considering making this fold is a bit silly. We have no read on the player and it is a relatively wierd play. We certainly will win sometimes, plus the added value of figuring out what hand villian will do this with is certainly worth the BB to call.
I don't like the thought of check-calling vs. betting. This might depend more on the limit played, but in games I play (mostly 5/10), the standard player who has limped UTG will call with all sorts of PPs that he is holding, 66-99, lots of stuff like 9T, A5, etc. Many of these hands he will check through. Yes, sometimes these guys will value bet, and sometimes they will fold, but more often they have called to the river with a draw or an inferior hand. And of those two, more often than not it is a worse hand. |

I think checking here misses a good amount of value...
I bet call, taking notes on the play afterwards regardless of the outcome |

I think the stakes and site matter. But i think river is def. a bet. Way too much to get payed off with that'll check, not to mention lots of draws like to semi-bluff somewhere. Prob fold to river raise w/o read.

Checking is wrong.
Bet/call sometimes, bet/fold sometimes. |

I wouldn't bet-fold against an unknown. Hell, in addition to the obvious frustration bluff-raises, he could be value-raising 99 versus your "whiffed" AK.
I don't know whether bet-calling or check-calling is the best play, but I'm showing down. |
