There's a whole science behind hangings, developed over centuries of practice. They have formulas for a person's weight to calculate how long the fall should be - too short and he doesn't die instantly, but has to choke to death; too long and he gets decapitated. Also, the knot has to be placed in the right angle, to ensure the vertebrae snap on falling.

As much as the Iraq war sucks, Saddam deserved it. He should've been gassed with the same thing he used on the Kurds, though, instead of getting such a well-executed hanging.
