I'm also upset at the fact that everyone is calling the guy in the hand some random "old dude". He was probably in his 50s. His brain still works. I think everyone has him pinned as the old guy who will overbet shove the river with only the nuts to see if the young whippersnapper hotshot will make a crying call.

Also, 0evg0, please stop posting, you've seemed like a huge troll the past few weeks. It is annoying.

So you are beaten by precisely 88 and 33 (7 combos total).

Question: Would he fold 88 too? How about KK putting his opponent exactly on quad 3's?
Wouldn't that make room for people to bluff him off the hand every single time since he won't call without the absolute nuts?

[/ QUOTE ]

He wouldn't fold either of these hands. With 88, the chances of 77 go up a ton. And with KK, villain has 88 or 77 most of the time. The reality is, whether the fold is good or not, if villain has a full house Steve is almost certainly losing. With KK and 88 this is not true.

Also, it's not like Steve is gonna make this fold again. I would never show that I laid the 77, but he is smart enough to adjust to his new image, so it's not that big of a deal. He called off 20k preflop with 66 after this and had a guy crushed (23o).

It's hard for us to judge without a read on the other player and everything but that is a HUGE laydown. I mean the guy easily could have had K8 for all we know but its cool to preserve your tournament life when you think you have an edge on the field and are baffled by an overbet like this, even with the 4th nuts. In any case it's a weird play by the opponent.

If I thought the call was +EV, I would've made it. I wasn't really thinking at all about the people around or busting or anything. I honestly thought (and pretty much still do) that given the info I had, calling was bad. That said, I don't plan on folding any more sets this tournament

ghol, I would have called with 88 and I would've called on a river blank (because 33 is very possible). Also, you can't just bluff all the time because I like making big calls way more than big folds (i.e. just because I folded 77 here doesn't mean I won't call off all my chips in different spots with way way less.)

Steve

This hand continued to amaze me the more I tried to imagine what you must have been thinking at the river. Could you please explain your train of thought further, what range you put the bb on to justify your fold, and what made you feel that range was reasonable?

get over it, not that huge a deal once you actually look at the way the hand played out.

exactly what hand is the old man shoving 60k into a 20k pot with that also reraises a full PSB on the turn?

Question: Is this fold a +EV play in long run?

[/ QUOTE ]

Answer: All folds are EV 0.

The question is wether calling is -EV or not.
