I don't understand why you're betting so small in order to induce a raise on the flop. This is a prety ugly flop and I'd be very happy to be able to call such a small bet if I was drawing big here.
Just bet normal psb here on the flop and follow up on the turn. |

yeah easy call.
he could have a combo draw and use that ace as a scare-card. The ace really doesn't complete a lot of likely hands that beat you, A5, A8 and AA. All are more unlikely than a big draw |

Only a big idiot is shoving a one pair hand here w/ no draw.
I'd still call this but I wouldn't be happy about it. There's going to be some times where you are crushed. |

Would it be bad to check-raise the flop?

Would it be bad to check-raise the flop? [/ QUOTE ] i think stack sizes make a c/r awkward. a bet/3-bet is good if it works. as played call. given description of villian as somewhat tricky, he could definitely be pushing the turn as a bluff (the A is a good bluff card for him) or some sort of combo draw (although that would be kinda bad). |

guys,
FWIW, villain is a good, thinking player and a big winner. He's not dumb enough to push Acxc or [censored] like that |

I'm not disagreeing with you necessarily, I just don't see how a c/r would be 'awkward.' If villian bets about 100, then hero raises to 300, hero still has 750ish left. Villian is probably either going to fold or push here. If he pushes, easy call because he probably has QQ+ (maybe JJ). If he folds, at least you got his 100. |

if you even have to question calling here, pf is even worse than it appears to be - which is pretty bad to begin with.
