I went to DePaul, living in Lincoln Park and Lakeview. After school I moved out to Lombard, then Aurora.
As a single guy wanting both access to nightlife and a bit of quiet, you want to be in Lakeview. It is not a complete zoo like Lincoln Park and Wrigleyville, and you are close enough that a short cab or bus ride easily get you home. As said in other posts, you do not want to live in the suburbs and try to commute to the loop for both school and work. The only negative from my view is the weather. We had a good year this year, but typically it's miserable with only 3 good months out of 12, cold/rainy for 6, hot/humid for 3. |

yes, i have a car you don't need a car there???? come on, really???? You would shivel up and die in LA without a car - even seen LA story... hahhaahha [/ QUOTE ] I'm from LA & yes, a car there is 100% necessary & death would ensue without. Not so in Chicago. Sometimes my lack of a car can be frustrating, when I want to simply drive out of the city (like to a B&M casino, Starved Rock to go hiking, etc) - but overall, I think having a car & living in the city (Lakeview for me) could be more hassle than it's worth. There's parking fees (try to find an apartment with a parking spot included!!), insurance is higher in the city, street traffic, etc. I can take public transport to everywhere I need to go, and it's cheap ($75/month for an unlimited pass). LA & Chicago are incredibly different cities - I like both & miss LA for various reasons (the main one being: weather and wealth of outdoor activities). Chicago is more "urban", LA is sprawling. Both necessitate totally different life needs (ie: car versus big winter jacket). |

i live in wicker park now. the gentrification going on right now is incredible; my neighborhood was pretty terrible even 5 years ago, now it is reasonable and should be great in 2-3 years. some of the new condos springing up in the area are very nice, id recommend checking it out. tc [/ QUOTE ] Can you even get into Wicker Park at a reasonable price anymore? I just got a place in E. Garfield Park. It's still a bit rough, but there's good things in store there. |

thanks everyone.. as im older but single, i want some nightlife but quiet too... yah i'm [censored] high maintenance both school and office will be couple blocks west of grant park... what about new brownstones in the area? the nightlife is more north right? do any of u guys play in chicago sport and social? [/ QUOTE ] i played softball in chicago sport and social - it was a co-ed recreational team - good times Lakeview or LP is IMO the best area to live - so much to do. i worked in hyde park, which is dangerous, and not a great place to live imo. i would prefer living in lakeview to downtown or the gold coast. |
