Typical stupid question...
I am XX years old in 2nd year of college
Average marks..
or I am a grunt in a low paying no satisfaction
no chance for advancement type job.
I have played poker part time for 6 months
I am on a downswing but i think if i play
full time and move up a level I will be
a winning player.
and want to quit school/crappy job and play pro.
How do i tell my parents/wife/GF?

This post appears on average, once per week.
It reminds me of the boy meets girl/boy looses
girl formula for a movie.

That type of Q deserves some Napalm and
lemon juice poured over a papercut.

Is this post a flame in itself or did it answer
a valid question??

Another factor to consider is that many posters make an absurd amount of money per hour, and don't really like having their time wasted by people posting retarded/incorrect/boring/annoying stuff, because they consider their own time valuable (yes, even while browsing an internet forum). I don't have an opinion on whether this is warranted/unwarranted but this is definitely a factor.

Ask an asinine question. Get an asinine answer. I actually find myself giving bad advice. Most of the time as a caustic joke or b/c I know alot of my opponents read what I write and I don't feel like giving away an edge.

Do you feel better after you make a caustic joke or after you make a post that could be missunderstood and cost someone a lot of $$$$.

What exactly do you consider an asinine question? Is it a question that is answered in the sticky or FAQ? Is it a question asked by someone at a lower level of understanding than yourself? Is it a question asked by someone on a higher plane of the game as you? Is it beginer questions?

Are your responses a reflex post, or do you put alot of time into your responses to asinine.

I like that you post to decieve your opponents but would it not be easier to just change the name that you post under? That way they would have zero info on you. Even deceptive info is info.

It's not my style in particular that is in question but if people do the same things I do my edge goes down. It costs alot of money to help anonymous people out. I read the forums b/c people continuely misunderstand that concept and the hippest trends in betting patterns are often brought directly to my tables. There are very few posters who think on a higher level than me (my accomplishments support this statement) and for the most part I try and learn from them. I generally give caustic replies to questions that people should be able to answer themselves with some reflection. There are very few hands that can be taken out of context and analyzed effectively, especially in higher limit games.

It's not a team sport, it's about money, and I think that attracts a certain macho "me good you bad" type of mentality.

Which is why I still find it refreshing (& surprising) why there are SO MANY experienced players willing to help those below them.

I've got to admit I've become suspicious that most of these posters are expierenced more in posting than they are in playing poker. Maybe I'm being too jaded.

I think my enjoyment in posting is driven by being bored at work. I really don't post when I'm off work and actually playing poker online.
So, when my post get negative, I'm thinking my sarcasm, etc. is more a product of work-tilt than poker-tilt.

MTB thoughful post. Do you really think there are enough brown trout out there that postings really affect your bottom line. I have never run into one that I know of unless it was a 2+2 table or something.

So in other words you come here to learn of those who are better than you without imparting any advice to those who know less than you?

Believe it or not but I play at stakes where a generic 2+2er is the fish at the table. When I was playing lower limit games, I was much more comfortable with giving out information b/c like you said you rarely run into another player who read this board.

Curious idea, it may have some truth. I thought this was because a high % of the posters are very young.
