If this even happened at all (maybe 50/50). OP is lying about mucking. He is feeling guilty about accidentally slowrolling and posted this here expecting us to say, "zOMG, who would do that. You're under no obligation to do that omgomgomg, why?". Hoping he would feel better knowing he did the normal thing. OP, you're pretty weak. Did you actually only finnish fifth? Even with your luckboxing against the cold-decked, hustling half-orphan?

nh, sir.

I would have showed my hand tho, commented on him getting rather far in the tournament and invited him to next tournament. Then made a mental note about speaking to him next time i saw him.

The pot isn't important. Showing that you care is.

If I would have been there, I would have made you show your cards...

and then I would have said...""COLD BLOODED""

and laughed.

Sick, all these other posters think they are getting ahead with their calculating antics but in reality they are vacuous souls whose singular retort is to [censored] everyone over. When I heard the story I was thinking I would have done the same thing, great fing play man.

Are you a gimmick-account based on Ellsworth Touhey from "The Fountainhead"? This reply in particular makes it seem somewhat plausible; no offense if not.

I don't understand what you mean by gimmick account but yes my handle is based on the literary character Ellsworth Toohey.

You get it that he was the villian right?

OP should have just not talked to the other players at the table in the first place. :/

I mean seriously, you should play the same as if you didn't talk to them in the first place. Sure it's a nice gesture, but if his first time out of the house is to a poker tournament, it's obvious he knows the game and knows that he's gotta lose sometime.

He doesn't know you had aces and so will think that he deserved the pot from the beginning. After the tournament, he'll think he deserved to get second, and will still be depressed over the mother (unless getting second is enough to get over the death, in which case he's not as "good" of a guy as you say, in which case you should have knocked him out). Seeing that he'll be depressed after the tourny regardless of if he wins or not, I say your actions did nothing but hurt yourself.

Without commenting on anything else, OP's idea was to not depress the guy further.
