[ QUOTE ]
I get the feeling that a lot of people who might otherwise be interested are ignorant of chess history. I might be interested in writing some kind of weekly column outlining the history and style of a past champion along with an annotated game. Let me know if there is any interest in that, because that would be a lot of work if there isn't any. [/ QUOTE ] Do it! |

how am i the only nimzovitch voter [/ QUOTE ] because the only people i've heard of on this list are Kasparov, and the people from "Searching for Bobby Fischer" I obviously need Amp's Chess history series. oh, and Spassky. |

I am a Nimzovich voter too. His book My system was a great read and it totally changed my perception on how to play the game. Even though he was probably never the best player of his generation he was certainly the best author and character.
In many ways he was the Phil Hellmuth of Chess in the 1930's. |

Alexander Alekhine should be an option. IMHO, he might be the third strongest player of all-time (I tend to go for dominance among peers as my standard). Kasparov basically took Alekhine's style to the next level.
And there is the small detail that AA pimp slapped Capa in a World Championship match. |

Alexander Alekhine should be an option. [/ QUOTE ] That's the most glaring omission, yes. |

FWIW I voted Nimzowitsch, but only because I couldn't vote for Bent Larsen - a great attacking player.
