We need the chess content
Ok, not the BEST PLAYER ever, as Kasparov will probably have that well in hand, even the most ardent fan of other players would have to admit. Favorite player though has a lot of give. I tried to include any possible candidate in the poll. If I missed your favorite let me know! |

It was between Tal and Capa for me, Capa getting the vote! I see Tal has the other vote.

You have got to love:
The carribean cool of Capablanca. The lightning brilliance of Tal. The preternatural talent of Morphy. The attacking genius of Fischer. The patience of Karpov. The imagination of Botvinnik. The longevity of Lasker. The sweetness of Petrosian. Nimzovitch on losing: “Why must I lose to this idiot?” Josh brought a lot of people to the game. Marshall WAS chess in the US during his time. Judit is the best female player ever. |

He is singularly amazing in his ability to take a seemingly static position and just destroy it with one move. This didn't always work out for him, but it's exciting as hell. One GM I have watched do this is actually Shirov, who I missed in my poll. |

I get the feeling that a lot of people who might otherwise be interested are ignorant of chess history. I might be interested in writing some kind of weekly column outlining the history and style of a past champion along with an annotated game. Let me know if there is any interest in that, because that would be a lot of work if there isn't any.
