Re: Cool Story from Bellagio Dealer, Moral Dillema Poll
Here's another idea. The dealer writes a story about how Gus Hanson gave him a $30,000 tip and submits it to Card Player magazine and the New York Times etc. In the meantime, he calls the Jay Leno and David Letterman shows and tells them about it too. Probably one of the late night shows would like to give a spot to the guy who got a $30,000. tip. Some of the regular news programs like to run a little fluff segment like that sometimes too, so he should let them know. After he's been on TV and the story is published, Gus will look like a real cool guy and humanitarian. Of course, if Gus then says it was a mistake and he would like the money back, the dealer could give it back.

Re: Cool Story from Bellagio Dealer, Moral Dillema Poll
A version of this story made it to Bluff Magazine this month. Doesn't say the player's name, makes it the 4000/8000 game, and the toke has grown to $35,000.
So at tonight's table I'm sitting next to a poker floor person who's playing and a playing dealer and they mention the story in Bluff. Both claim they wouldn't have thought twice about keeping a $35,000 toke. They'd tap it and put it in their pocket and that'd be that. When asked about the ramifications of trying to cash it, both said they'd be a-ok with losing their job to cash the toke if that's what it came down to; there are other jobs out there. But the claim was there's no way the casino could legally prevent 'em from keeping it once a review of the tapes shows the player handing it over willingly. And both said they'd be able to find someone they know who plays for big stakes to cash it for them if they were intent on avoiding scrutiny. |

Re: Cool Story from Bellagio Dealer, Moral Dillema Poll
Hypothetical situation most likely not far from the truth:
The amount of time it took for the dealer to walk away from the table, look at his last tip, realize he's got to turn around, come back to the table, and tap Gus on the shoulder was probably just enough time for Hansen to say "Hey Chip, I just tipped that kid $30K ,didn't I? Stupid massage... Ah well, I'll bet you $15K he brings it back." Reese contemplates, accepts the prop-bet, and giggles a little when he sees the dealer walking back to the table to right the wrong. Gus gives the kid a black bird for his honesty, and after the dealer walks away, Reese throws three $5K chips to Hansen and says "Double or nothing this story hits 2+2 in the next 12 hours and gets over 7 pages of moral debate?" Gus then say "Make it 15 pages, and you've got a bet." |
