Well, I'm specifically in a donkament mode right now; I wasn't aware that there are other events going on at GS and HS. I don't want to register over the phone because there is still a significant chance I won't be able to go (it will basically be a game-time decision tomorrow morning). I suppose I can call and register while I'm driving over.

Incedentally, this will be the first live tournament I've played that isn't a regularly-scheduled (i.e. weekly, monthly) thing. Is there anything in particular I should know before arriving? Do they generally comp buffets for events this big? There's nothing worse than playing a weekly tournament, cashing, then having to play for an hour before they'll comp you (this has actually happened to me several times at the grand, despite my willingness to "alternatively compensate" the floor and my past record of play in that room (I suspect this is due to HET corporate belt-tightening)).

Last January I played one of the 2nd chance $175+$25 events at the Grand that they hold daily during these Circuit things.

They gave everyone a comp-buffet when you bought into the tourney.

I think they were doing this for every tournament they had but I'm not positive.
they might be doing the same this time around as well.

No promises though.

Even if they don't I suspect there might be a decent chance you could score a buffet-comp if you asked. Just say you just drove in from a zillion miles away and just bought in for the $1k tourney. You are going to play cash-games after the tourney is over. And you happen to be freaking starved so 'help a brutha out??'

However, it's not exactly the end of the world to pay $10 for a buffet either.
Often-times we get to the Horseshoe or somewhere and haven't eaten yet so we're starving.

Screw sitting at the table to get the comp. I'm hungry and don't feel like waiting. So we just go there and pay and I don't think it's a big deal.

I got a comp buffet for the $500 on Tuesday, but not for the $300 on Monday or the 2nd Chance on Wed. They gave us a $20 ticket so a friend and I used ours togather. He paid the difference for Tuesday and I paid for Wed.

On Monday they had 834 total entries for the $300, I went out near the first break. For the $500 we had 540, I finished 51st. In the 2nd Chance I played on Wed. we had 174 people, paid 18 and I finished 5th for $1772.

They were mainly doing $120 and $65 9 man sats and had lines of people waiting to get in depending on the time of day. When my 2nd Chance was wrapping up at 2:45am they still had people playing in the sats and the cash game room was packed.

Sounds great. Did 51st cash in the $500 event?

If I do make it tomorrow (looking doubtful) I'll be the 300lb 6'5" guy with really short dark brown hair and a dark green LL Bean jacket.

Yep, $655. I was the first person out that didn't have to chop. 52-55 all chopped which was about $425 each. I had a short stack and I would have had enough for a couple of antes after the blinds so I went all-in on my BB with Q2h. The SB who had limped called and showed 62o and hit a 6 on the river to take me out. Not happy, but I put my self in the situation when I fold several good hands when we got near the money. The good is that I chopped two sats to pay the entry, so instead of $500+50 I spent $130. I just got back to Chicago today. Wish I could have stayed, but we had plans already for this weekend.

I have been primarly a on-line player. Back in August I went to my first live tournament at a local casino and this week was my first large tournament. I would rather play live now instead of on-line. I met a lot of great people. In my 2nd Chance the FT had two braclet winners and one ring winner. On gentalman named Jason spent close to 6 hours at the same table as me between the $500 and the 2nd Chance.

I will be going to the Indiana event in October for a couple of days and I plan on going back down to Tunica later this fall and for the January events.
